![]() ![]() Really holding water is the thing you need to do, because as long as you can do that you can grow crops steadily so the big trick is to not expand your population beyond your water capacity, and also be aware that if you add more pumps you will pump the river dry in the drought and that will kill your crops, so generally it is best to separate your irrigation and your water sources, which you can do by building more dams to compartmentalize the river. You also want to increase your water retention capacity which means damming off bigger sections of river, a surprisingly easy way to do that once you get a forester is actually to build a two block dam across the section of the lower lake that is two blocks deep and near your starting area, it's a bit materials intensive but it doesn't require any special parts, just lots of basic wood. Probably the easiest way to expand is to blast a water channel to irrigate the large floodplain one z level up from your starting point, you can do it from the part where it meets the river if you build a two tall dam at that section, that will give you vast amounts of growing space, though you will need to find some metal first to make the dynamite plant. It is a powerful visual metaphor for my posting. They're fully separated for resources except where you explicitly designate them to be delivered with distribution posts, so they can also be good for managing the flow of goods. ![]() If you want to spread further on your map you need to build new ones. Your initial district is limited in how far it can extend. They're usually things like increased walking speed, life expectancy, work efficiency or carry capacity (strength). You can see what when you select a beaver and hover over their needs. Both of these locations have access to trees and berries to get a new district started without being dependent on your original district.Īside from having an average wellbeing of 8 unlocking the iron tooths, each individual need gives your beavers a separate bonus when fulfilled. Two solid candidates for expansion are the corner upstream of your starting place (where there's another empty pool with a natural blockage on it), which positions you well to build a tall, deep dam in the river canyon, and at the lake downstream that can hold a lot of water through the drought. If you're going to expand new districts I do strongly recommend unlocking the distribution post buildings, though. Dynamite is a great target to aim for since it requires you to develop most of the other industry tech along the way. Everything else depends on what goal you're pursuing. The only technology that needs to be rushed is forestry, since you need to build one of those before you run out of trees. Make sure you're not trying to get water to flow through a tighter gap than the source, otherwise it will rise up and overflow. Floodgates are helpful here since you can be reactive with how much water flows through your dams. Yeah, there's physics going on with the water in Timberborn and if there isn't a clean flow for the water to travel along you'll get waves breaking the banks sometimes. What's the point of building more districts? maybe having separate colonies further apart?ĭwesa fucked around with this message at 12:04 on Sep 27, 2021 What are the benefits of beaver wellbeing? ![]() What might be some good places for further expansion? should I build more dams upstream or maybe build some channels with explosives? seems like I'm rather limited now and watering towers don't seem very reliable metal salvaging seems rather meh for the default tribe, maybe explosives? ![]() Is there some technology that I should rush? e.g. It's minor thing, but a bit annoying and I have no idea why it happens - something about the physics of water in this game maybe? Parts of town are periodically flooded as if there was some 'wave' going down the river, it started happening only after I built the second dam. I found this thread when searching for Timberborn and I am currently playing my first normal game (I tried easy at first) with Plains (default or recommended map) and I built 40-something beaver town, I built one basic dam where the river ends in the lake and one taller levee/dam with 1 floodgate a bit further up the river (first small drop closest to starting location) and I am wondering few things: ![]()
